There’s quite a lot of truth in your article Kirk! Most of the times, the upgrade to the newest model of camera is rather useless. Camera companies throw around with more megapixels, and more focus points, while they are totally irrelevant to most people’s shooting, and are certainly not making you a better photographer. Only in very specific cases, upgrading to those extra megapixels will be worth it. For instance, if you shoot for billboards and such, or other large prints or publications.
My advice mostly is: use your money for lenses. If I get $$$ to spend on camera gear, I would use 15–20% for a good high quality second hand camera, 15% on light, and 75% on high quality lenses (can also be second hand).
As a side remark: One of my best selling images was shot on my iPhone 6…
